Meanwhile, April ended and May began with intakes: two additional barred branchers from Emanuel County on April 30 and an adult red shoulder from Chatham County on May 2.
The brancher barreds were unnested some TWELVE DAYS before LWR was contacted about them. Apparently loggers cut down the tree their nest was in, a logger had them for about a week, and then he took them to someone else who had them for almost a week before reaching out to LWR. During all this time, they were fed only chicken and beef—no fur or bones to form pellets to clean out their digestive system. To be honest, I was expecting to receive birds in pretty bad shape, but they looked fairly decent, given their nearly two weeks of inappropriate diet, and adapted eagerly to a proper diet.
And finally, there will be no update next Sunday, May 10, Mother’s Day. I’ll be spending that day with my mother.
